Chilly weather for a few days

Remaining Ad Time Ad - 00:00

Today: Mostly cloudy skies becoming partly cloudy later today. Colder and a bit breezy. (Lake effect snow in the far north)
High: 21 Wind: NW 10-15

Tonight: Scattered clouds and chilly.
Low: 2 Wind: NW around 5

Friday: Partly cloudy and rather cold.
High: 16 Wind: West 5-10

High pressure is developing and moving into the area and it looks like it will keep the weather very quiet for a few days. Eventually, the temperatures will warm up as well.

Today will be one of the cold days in the forecast. A northwest wind has developed and that is bringing in a little shot of arctic air. Temps will start out in the teens early on today and then only reach the upper teens to low 20s this afternoon. Winds will be out of the northwest at 10 to 15 mph producing wind chills in the single digits at times. There will be some lake effect snow in the far northern parts of the area with a couple of inches in a few spots in Vilas county. Closer to Hurley in northern Iron county, 2 to 4 inches is possible yet today. A few flakes might fall as far south a Rhinelander.

Other than the lake effect snow this morning, it looks very dry through the weekend and early next week. The only question mark will be the extent of cloud cover. The clouds will decrease this afternoon and it should be mainly clear tonight, then another batch of clouds will move in on Friday. The high pressure system should then be strong enough to keep conditions mostly sunny from Saturday through Monday. More clouds will develop on Tuesday as warmer air moves into the region. A weak low pressure system will keep clouds around on Wednesday of next week and there is even a light chance of rain and snow at that point.

Temps will gradually warm up but it will likely be below normal through Saturday. Highs will only be in the teens on Friday so put on an extra layer. Low temps will likely be in the single digits above and below zero on Saturday and Sunday morning. The mercury should climb into the lower and middle 20s on Saturday afternoon and then reach the middle to upper 20s on Sunday. The mercury should be up to normal on Monday, topping out in the upper 20s. Temps will then rise above normal into the 30s on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Have a splendid Thursday! Meteorologist Justin Loew 4:30 a.m. 6-December 2018
