MADISON, Wis. (WAOW) — The Columbus Catholic boys basketball team advances to the WIAA state final after an electrifying finish.

In the final minute of the game #3-ranked Bangor tied the game twice.

With just 5.8 seconds left, Bangor tied the game at 66-66. The #2 ranked Dons employed their press-break, getting the ball to Junior Tom Nystrom, who hit a three-pointer at the buzzer.

“Tom Nystrom lived the dream that every high school basketball player dreams in hitting a buzzer-beater at the Kohl Center,” said the Dons Head Coach Joe Konieczny.

“I was just shooting, and it felt like I was just shooting in the Columbus gym,” said Nystrom. “And I was so happy after. I just didn’t realize that it did go in for a little bit, but I’m glad it did.”

The Dons face #1 Sheboygan Area Lutheran Saturday.
