Discolored water in Marathon Co. under investigation

MARATHON, CITY, Wis. (WAOW) — Utility customers in the Village of Marathon City may notice a temporary change in water color.

According to a press release from the city, the water supplied by the utility will have “moderate to significant discoloration.” The release says the discoloration is caused by increased iron and manganese levels in the water supply.

While the utility is working on restoring the water’s clarity, they say the water is “safe for use and consumption,” per the release.

The utility, however, does not recommend customers doing laundry with the water, citing an increased risk of stained clothing due to the increased mineral levels.
