Velocity Clubhouse is a state-of-the-art sports training center serving athletes of all ages. Over the next six weeks, it’s home to a Volleyball Academy.

“We wanted to be able to give volleyball athletes in Central Wisconsin the same training that other athletes in the state get,” lead volleyball trainer Mackenzie Rechner said.

Rechner, a former SPASH MVP and UW-La Crosse captain, instructs the program.

“She helps me a lot with all the things to learn about volleyball, but she can be funny at the same time,” Peyton Wachsmuth said.

The Academy is centered on teaching the fundamentals.

“We build from week to week on the skills we had in the previous week, so that at the end of the six weeks, the athletes had more skills than what they came with,” Rechner said.

The Volleyball Academy instills a love of the game early–this one for girls ages 9-14.

“This age group is typically the one that want to learn and have the drive to do so…they love it,” Rechner said.

“I’ve learned a lot,” Wachsmuth said. “I’ve learned how to hit the ball and serve it.”

On top of developing their skills, the girls are making forming lifelong friendships. The Volleyball Academy runs through August 12.
