For this week’s Central Wisconsin Golf Card, we traveled to the Riverview Golf Course just outside of Antigo.
It’s a nine-hole course, but one that still provides plenty of memorable features.
“Well I think it’s a unique nine hole course, a course that has some challenge to it. It has some really good scenery. There’s no back and forth holes, and I think it’s very enjoyable. You get different shots throughout the whole course,” said owner Joe Kretz.
This course is a labor of love for Kretz, who is now in his 41st season at the course.
“I told people it’s a lot of hard work, and a lot of frustration, but when I get up in the morning, I get to go to the golf course every day.”
One of the biggest menaces you’ll deal with on this course: water. Seven of the nine holes feature some sort of water.
That includes the eighth hole, which is their signature hole.
“To get on the green, you have to carry it. The green sits just a few feet beyond the water. It’s a hole that if you hit it on the green, it’s an easy par. If you don’t, it could be a pretty good sized number,” Kretz said.
