It took a few innings to get going, but the Stratford bats woke up late against Markesan, and the Tigers won their first state title in school history 9-4.

The Tigers got six runs in the top of the seventh to secure that title.

Chandler Schmidt pitched a complete game, allowing three earned runs on seven hits.

Riley Bauman continued his hot streak, going 2-4, driving in two runs.

Chandler Schmidt also had a huge game, driving in three. Eli Drexler drove in two runs as well.

“Happy. Pure Happiness right now. I can’t really explain how I feel, but it’s a great feeling. I’ve never experienced anything like this, i’m riding cloud 9 right now. I’ll never forget this team, this was amazing, the best experience of my life and athletic career right here,” Drexler said.

“I was saying yesterday that my goal was to see the smiles on these kids faces and the parents in and the community and it happened. It was a great ending to one spectacular year for Stratford sports, so for us to come out with the gold in the end is just awesome,” said Head Coach Marshall Lehman.
