The Merrill boys golf team may have taken 6th place at Antigo Regionals, but the Blue Jays star golfer Russell Dettmering is moving onto individual sectionals.
“It takes blood, sweat and tears…and practice, practice, practice,” Dettmering said.
The No. 5 golfer in the state won the Regional shooting a 73, which adds another accolade to Dettmering’s list of achievements.
The junior dominated the Wisconsin Valley Conference this year, winning five of seven league, including his third straight WVC championship.
“People see it as ‘what more can he do…he’s doing everything he can’ There’s a lot more that can be done,” Dettmering said.
Dettmering is on his way to make a trip back to state; one guy on his radar is top ranked Piercen Hunt.
“There are tournaments during the summer where if I win, I can give Piercen a run for his money,” Dettmering said. “I want to get to state and I just want to win; that’s what my goal is–it’s what it’s always been.”
The junior will compete in the Sectional tournament on Tuesday at New Richmond Golf Course.
