The Mosinee boys golf team is in second place in the Great Northern Conference behind first place Lakeland Union, but one golfer for the Indians is having his best year to date.
Stanford Swid has been a starter for the varsity golf team since his freshman year and now, as a junior, he worked his was up to the #1 spot.
“I improved over the last off-season coming into this season,” Swid said. “I don’t think people knew or expected where I was going to be, but I knew where I was and I knew what I was trying to do and I would say I have been pretty successful. ”
A few weeks ago, Swid shot a 75, winning the individual award in a 14-team invite at Irish Golf Course.
His scores in the GNC have been spot on; shooting 75, 78, 77, and 74.
The highlight of Swid’s career came on Tuesday. The junior score 1-under par for the first time in competitive rounds.
“It was crazy,” Swid said. “When I was on my front nine I was two over and I just could not make any putts and then I got to the back nine I made an eagle, I got back to even, then I started rolling in some birdie putts–that was awesome.”
Swid’s goal is to make it to the WIAA State Golf Tournament this year.
