The Green Bay Packers kicked off the first leg of the 2019 Tailgate Tour in Marshfield. Tour celebrities including former players Nick Barnett, Earl Dotson, Ryan Grant, Bernardo Harris, Aaron Kampman and Scott Wells, along with a special appearance from Packers President/CEO Mark Murphy.
“It means a lot to me,” fan Dan Krobidlowski said. “I’ve been a Packer fan my whole life and to be able to share this moment with my daughter is very special.”
One hundred percent of the Tailgate Tour proceeds benefit the hosting organizations. Marshfield’s goes directly to PDC Orenda Center, a shelter offering support and resources to women who have been victims of domestic or sexual abuse.
Fans of all ages participated in Q&A sessions with the athletes, got autographs and some were even offered words of wisdom.
“My favorite part was getting advice,” fan Tyson Stempa said. “He told me how I should follow my dream of being a professional football player.”
Hundreds showing up at the country club, just for brief interactions with the Packers alumni.
“There is no fan-base like it and they always keep it fresh and fun–they are the funnest fan-base there is,” former Packers Linebacker Nick Barnett said.
Even a legendary Packer icon, Mean Gene The Dancing Machine, showed up to meet the guys.
“You’ve got Mean Gene here…oh yeah, this is legitimate,” Packers President/CEO Mark Murphy said.
“When you get called out by the President of the Green Bay Packers…WOW!” Gene said.
The crowd-pleaser made the two hour drive because he wanted to make his eight straight tailgate party.
“It doesn’t matter how far I have to travel, I just love to be here,” Gene said. “Just a chance to meet the Packers face-to-face, with just a few minutes or seconds to talk and hear their stories is special.”
At the end of the day, the undying support for the Green and Gold does not go unnoticed.
“You guys are the most supportive people,” Former Packers running back Ryan Grant said. “I don’t even know if it’s the smartest thing you guys do sometimes but your willingness to go above and beyond for this team is matched nowhere.”
Other stops on the Tailgate Tour include Sparta, New Richmond, Chippewa Falls, and Antigo.
