Alex Stewart

Alex Stewart joined the WAOW News 9 Sports Team In June 2018.

Growing up in Lincoln California Alex has been a “football guy” since birth, literally. In his first hours of life, he watched a Monday Night Football game laying on his dad’s chest in the hospital room and never looked back. That moment laid an early foundation for his love of sports and his career.

Playing Quarterback for 10 years, and coaching for 4, Alex not only loves the game, but his Football IQ is exceptionally high. It is no wonder when the opportunity to come to Wausau presented itself, he jumped at the chance.

Alex graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno’s Reynolds School of Journalism with his Bachelors Degree in Broadcast Journalism. While there he worked for KOLO Channel 8 and the Mountain West Network.

From there, Alex then went on to Arizona State University’s Cronkite School of Journalism where he earned his Masters Degree in Sports Journalism, working for Cronkite News and Fox Sports Arizona.

After college, Alex took his first sports reporting & anchoring job outside Lincoln, Nebraska before making the move to central Wisconsin. Both a student of the game and a true football fan, Alex feels right at home in Wausau.

“I am beyond blessed to be here in Wausau covering one of the most storied teams in football history, The Green Bay Packers. It is a dream come true.”

Alex is an avid outdoorsman. When he is not covering Wisconsin sports on WAOW, he can be found hunting, fishing, hiking, and exploring the backroads in his truck. He loves good food (cheese curds are his new favorite), good music, good friends and celebrating the holidays with his family.

In his own words: “I absolutely love it here, and look forward to sharing the sports stories that really matter with this unbelievable community!”
