The number one ranked UWSP Pointers hockey team is making a strong push to become national champions this season.
However, in the quarterfinals round of the NCAA Division III tournament this Saturday, they face a bitter rival in the St. Norbert College Green Knights.
The Pointers went undefeated in the regular season with a record of 26-0-2, with one of those ties coming courtesy of the Green Knights.
Despite that though, the Pointers enter the game confident they can win.
“We come in here every single day and we’ll play anybody, anytime anywhere,” said Senior Stephan Beauvais. “At this point, bring in anybody you want and we’re going to take them down.”
While they may be confident, they are still trying to remain calm and treat this like any other game.
“I don’t want to over stimulate the guys,” Head Coach Tyler Krueger said.
“If you can’t get up for this game you need to check your pulse. You know, if anything i’m trying to minimize the importance of this game, if you get to hyped up on it, worry about the outcome, you let everything else into it, that’s when you feel pressure. You know pressure isn’t real, it’s something that’s created in your own mind and it’s not the end all be all, it’s not the end of the world.”
The puck drops between the Pointers and the Green Knights this Saturday at 7 P.M. at Willett Ice Arena.
