Our featured athlete this week is Newman Catholic’s Julia Seidel.
Seidel receives the honor after being a key contributor to the Cardinals amazing run to the girls basketball state tournament in Green Bay.
Seidel shined in the first half of the semi-finals game against the Clayton Bears. She went a perfect 5/5 from the field with four of those shots coming from behind the arc.
“I remember thinking that my shot was feeling good I guess,” said Seidel. “But I didn’t really know that I was perfect.”
Seidel would finish as the games leading scorer with 22 points. However even though she had a monster game her team would fall short of advancing to the championship game.
While Seidel is happy to have had a great game on the big stage, she would trade it all for her team and a win.
“I know a lot of people say this, but I truly believe that if I don’t score any points and we win, it would make me more happy than what happened on Friday,” Seidel said.
“As much as it was cool to have a big game I would have rather had the win and if that would have helped my team get a win by me scoring then obviously i’ll score, but it would have been really awesome to have played Saturday, so that would have been a bigger moment for me I guess.”
