Big Ten Tournament bracket announced

Michigan State, Ohio State, Purdue and Nebraska are the top four seeds in the 2018 Big Ten Men’s Basketball Tournament, the conference office announced on Sunday night. The 21st annual event will be played from Feb. 28 – March 4 at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

Wisconsin earned a no. 9 seed and will face no. 8 seed Maryland on Thursday, March 1 at 11 a.m. CST. on the Big Ten Network.

Michigan State finished with a 16-2 conference record and claimed the outright regular-season title with a 68-63 win at Wisconsin on Sunday afternoon. The Spartans’ outright regular-season crown is its first since the 2008-09 season. They open play at 11 a.m. CST on Friday.

Ohio State and Purdue tied for the second place in the regular-season standings, with a 15-3 record, with the Buckeyes earning the No. 2 seed based on a head-to-head victory vs. the Boilermakers. Nebraska earned the No. 4 seed and the final double-bye of the tournament with a 76-64 result vs. Penn State on the last day of the regular season. The Huskers tied with Michigan at 13-5, but Nebraska claimed the fourth seed by virtue of its head-to-head win vs. the Wolverines.

The tournament begins on Wednesday with two opening-round games of No. 13 Illinois vs. No. 12 Iowa at 4:30 p.m. CST followed by No. 11 Minnesota vs. No. 14 Rutgers. BTN will broadcast games on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, with CBS set to televise the semifinals on Saturday and championship game on Sunday.
