STEVENS POINT, Wis (WAOW)– Downtown Stevens Point will be home to a new ice rink this winter.
It will be taking the place of the Central Company rink, which is one of the city’s least used rinks.
The rink will be located on the city square. The city will still have its Christmas tree, but it will be moved further west on the square.
The tree will be slightly smaller but wont need to be tethered down like a larger tree would be which is why the tree is able to be moved from the center of the square to make room for the rink.
“It’ll just be another feature to bring people downtown, if you want to come downtown and bring the kids skating for a little bit see the Christmas tree, maybe do a little shopping downtown grab a cup of hot coco or a bite to eat, just one more thing to enhance the wonderful downtown of Stevens Point,” said Stevens Point Mayor Mike Wiza.
Wiza adds that that since the the downtown is taking the place of another rink, there will be no added cost to taxpayers. The hope is to have the rink open to the public by Christmas.
