(WAOW) — The Wisconsin Department of Transportation wants you to be aware of a possible scam involving trucking companies.
According to a press release from WisDOT, scam-style letters requesting trucking companies to pay to file their biennial updates are being circulated. Per the release, the links in the scam letters “lead to websites not connected with the USDOT in order to collect fees in exchange for filing the biennial updates.
The companies and sites “are not associated with the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) or WisDOT,” the release adds.
The letters also include threats of fines for failure to pay, according to the release.
WisDOT reminds that biennial filing can be done for free at the FMCSA website.
