Wausau’s Monk Botanical Gardens participating in national competition

(WAOW) — A local botanical garden is vying for the top spot in a competition featuring gardens from across the country.

According to a press release, the Monk Botanical Gardens is among nine specialty public gardens from around the country in  the Lark Label Loves Gardens Sweepstakes.

The Gardens’ vision is to connect people to plants for a sustainable future, per the release. It is also the only organization providing public environmental education services within Wausau

The garden that earns the most online votes will receive $1,000 in signage from the event sponsor, Lark Label Co. of Wichita, Kansas. Garden workers say the prize, if they win, would be right on time.

“One of the struggles we have had is getting our plants categorized and labeled,” said executive director Darcie Howard. “This funding would aid in our efforts-currently lead by a strong group of volunteers.”

The contest ends August 31.
