WAUSAU (WAOW)– This week is National Police Week and Tuesday was Peace Officers Memorial Day.
The day was established in 1961 as part of the week that honors police officers and those that made the ultimate sacrifice while protecting and serving their communities.
“They make the ultimate sacrifice. We put or lives on the line every single day coming to work not knowing if we’re going to make it home to our families, so knowing the seriousness and the risks we’re taking, it’s nice to honor us,” Malori Buchkoski a patrol officer with the Wausau Police Department said.
The state of Wisconsin lost two officers to line of duty deaths in 2018.
