WAUSAU, Wis., (WAOW) — The 2-1-1 Wisconsin Addiction Recovery Helpline initiative started in October 2018.
By dialing 2-1-1, those struggling with addiction can now speak to treatment and recovery resources.
There are seven contact centers across the state. The United Way of Marathon County hosts one of those centers, which responds to central Wisconsin.
The organization reports they’ve handled over 1,900 requests for help since October.
“They’ve shared that they were able to get into rehab or they were able to get into an out patient service and they’re on the path to recovery,” said 2-1-1 Director Mai Ger Moua. “And that feels really good, to know that we are helping people who need help.”
Individuals looking for help can also seek help through text messages or online.
For help via text, text your ZIP Code to 898211. More information and online assistance are available at AddictionHelpWI.org.
A grant from the Department of Health Services helps fund the service.
