Safety concerns for customers and staff cause Granite Peak to close

*UPDATE* — Granite Peak will also be closed Thursday, according to a post on their Facebook page.

They will re-open Friday at 9 a.m.

RIB MOUNTAIN (WAOW) — Granite Peak Ski Area closed its slopes today due to the bitter cold. Safety concerns for staff and guest, remain high on its priority list in low temperatures.

“Lift Ops have to stay outside, we got our groomers out at 3 o’clock in the morning every night. So, it’s definitely a safety concern for them as well,” said Lisa Zilinsky, Granite Peak Marketing Director.

It’s the first time in seven years the park has closed due to inclement weather according to Zilinsky. Staff will be on site in case of any avid riders didnt get the official word.

“We do always have the die hards, that rain or shine, will always be here,” said Zilinsky.

Granite Peak will open back up tomorrow at their normally scheduled hours.
