The “boiling water challenge” is sending people to the hospital

(WKOW) — Most of the country has experienced sub-below temperatures over the past few weeks, which has tempted some people to perform a science experiment.

The “boiling water challenge” has gone viral, but doctors are advising people not to do it.

The challenge is to throw boiling water into the air and watch it freeze. It makes some cool looking results, but multiple people have been hospitalized from doing it.

Eight people in Chicago were taken to the hospital last week because they had burned their feet, arms, hands, and face.

When people throw the water up into the air, it can blow back on them resulting in burns.

People were also taken to the hospital in Iowa and a few more were taken to the hospital in Minnesota.

It’s not just the people who are doing it that are getting hurt; it’s people who are observing too.

The bottom line is if you want to see what happens when you throw boiling water into the cold air, look up a video, don’t try it yourself.
