WAUSAU (WAOW) — Charges have been filed against a Wausau shooting suspect.

Henry West faces 16 felonies and one misdemeanor charge.

Police say they were called to the scene on reports of a shooting. Several witnesses told police they saw West ride up on his bike and start shooting.

Witnesses told police West was fired from the Pine Grove Cemetery back in 2012.

According to court documents, West made several spontaneous comments to police as they arrested him including: “I know I don’t deserve any attention.” “I told Eric I needed more time.” “I don’t think I could be in anymore trouble but anything I did wrong was going to be a death sentence for me anyway. I am 65 with all sorts of health issues. It didn’t matter what I did wrong, I was going to end up in jail for the rest of my life.”

Afterward, police say a handgun was found in the grass nearby.

One of the victims, William Buhse was shot three times in his shoulder.

Police say on video recording from the cemetery, they can see West shoot at Rosamelia Short as she was driving from the cemetery.

According to court documents, West was being evicted from the apartment building set fire. A manager from the apartment building told police West had made comments about the cemetery after he was fired.

Police say when they entered West’s apartment, the bomb robot found an incendiary device along with gasoline. Police also say they discovered explosive levels of natural gas inside another apartment.

“If combusted, would have created a large explosion killing or injuring several to hundreds of people, to include the residents of the 119, 20 and 121 Fullmer Street complexes, as well as Wausau Land and Title business and
possibly the Riverside Bait and Tackle Shop. The explosion would have also included all law enforcement personnel, EMS personnel, and other agencies assisting in this incident,” the criminal complaint reads.
