Central Wisconsin Airport Board approves Ascension Spirit Medical relocation

CENTRAL WISCONSIN (WAOW) — Ascension’s Spirit Medical home base will now be at the Central Wisconsin Airport.

The Central Wisconsin Joint Airport Board approved the relocation after two years at Stevens Point. The new location allows Spirit One to have greater access, as the facility operates 24 hours per day.

“When we need to go at three in the morning and we need to go fast, we need to make sure snow is removed so we get the aircraft out and moved,” said Matt Thompson, Ascension Wisconsin’s EMS Outreach Coordinator. “If there is a foot of snow on the ground, those type of things take a little bit longer, and that’s what CWA provides for us.”

The proposal will now head to the Mosinee Plan Commission and the state for final approval.

Construction would begin mid-November, with completion targeted for next summer.
