STEVENS POINT, Wis. (WAOW) — Mayor Mike Wiza tells News 9 that during recent storms, the city did the best they could to communicate with residents who may have been without power.

However, a few alderpersons with the city questioned the city’s communication.

“The biggest issue this time was people without power,” Mayor Wiza said. “Sometimes if you don’t have power you may not have internet. You can’t just rely on one media form.”

The city gets information pertaining to power from WPS, and Mayor Wiza added that sometimes the city is waiting for the information to share.

“What we tried to do is when we had information to share, we shared it with all media sources,” Mayor Wiza stated. “Print media, online media, radio, TV, and we have our own radio station for things like that.”

Mayor Wiza said moving forward he will make sure that people are updated with some sort of information, even if it’s just reassuring everyone that crews are working in the city and they’re waiting for more information to share.
