Merrill (WAOW) — James Ament, accused of attempted child sex assault, reaches a plea deal.

Prosecutors say Ament wrote his phone number in a bathroom stall at a Merrill park. They say two kids found the number and called it back in Aug. of 2018. According to court records, Ament then solicited sex from the kids.

According to a criminal complaint, the children who talked to Ament on the phone contacted police and a sting was set up using text messages of a officer posing as a 10-year-old. They agreed to meet at Riverside Park.

“Approximately 27 times during this conversation the suspect Mr. Ament tried to make arrangements to pick up what he thought was this 10-year-old boy,” said Lt. Chad Collinsworth of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Dept.

Officials said in the text exchange with Ament, he said he would have a pair of skinny jeans waiting for the boy at home.

“He did have little boys skinny jeans laid out on his bed,” Collinsworth said.

Ament pleaded no contest to child enticement, sexual contact. No immediate sentencing date was set.
