RHINELANDER, Wis. (WAOW) — As the main stage concerts get underway at Hodag Country Festival, campsites are decorated and ready for the occasion.
News 9’s Neena Pacholke went around to campsites and came across ‘Camp Flamingo.’ Everywhere you look, there’s a flamingo, whether it’s outside of the camper or inside.
It belongs to a Kaukana couple, Gene and Carrie Prallwitz. It started nearly 15 years ago when Carrie and her girlfriends were attending Hodag and couldn’t find their campsite because they all looked similar. The group added two plastic flamingos outside the camper and it’s spiraled out of control from there.
“It’s grown from the yard to the inside: the sheets, the blankets, the towels, the decorations, all the dishware, all the dish towels. Everything is flamingo,” Prallwitz said.
The Kaukauna couple said dozes of Hodag-goers stop by each day, saying hello and taking pictures with the fello flamingos.
They said they have hundreds of flamingos on the campsite and it takes nearly two days to set up.
