Stevens Point Brewery wins gold at U.S. Open Beer Championship

STEVENS POINT, Wis. (WAOW) — The country’s premier brewery hub does it again!

Stevens Point Brewery added to an already large collection of awards, as Point Special Lager won gold in the American Premium Lager category, beating more than 50 other entries, according to a post on the brewery’s Facebook page.

This marks the first gold medal from the U.S. Open Beer Championship for Point Special Lager; it won silver in the same category at the 2015 U.S. Open Beer Championship.

This year, the championship field was bigger than ever, as the event featured nearly 7,000 beers in more than 130 different categories. Judges are only aware of the categories, but do not know which beer they are tasting when judging, the post said.

“To participate in a premiere, high-profile beer event like the U.S. Open Beer Championship is a privilege,” said Julie Birrenkott, Stevens Point Brewery Marketing Director. “To win medals, especially gold, in head-to-head competition with many exceptional entries from around the world, is an honor that reaffirms our commitment to brewing the finest handcrafted beers. The U.S. Open Beer Championship is a celebration of craft brewing, and the recognition our beers gain from winning is priceless.”
