WAUSAU, Wis. (WAOW) — As the countdown to America’s birthday nears its end, some area kids were getting into the holiday spirit Wednesday morning.

Students from Trinity Lutheran School, along with teachers, were out in a sea of red, white and blue encouraging passing drivers to get into the holiday spirit by waving American flags as well as patriotic pom-poms.

In turn, many drivers honked in approval as they drove by.

The students range from less than a year old up to elementary school age.

“The Fourth of July is a special holiday because we celebrate people who have fought in wars to make our country free,” Trinity Lutheran student Megan Troy said.

Students told News 9 it’s a fun way to celebrate America’s freedom.

“Everyone should really just be excited and know that our country is really free and awesome,” Trinity Lutheran student Logan Frey said.

In addition to all of the flags, many of the kids were sporting patriotic outfits!
