DANE COUNTY (WKOW) — Dozens of officers from several departments responded to multiple chases that began with a report of stolen vehicles in Monona.
At the end of two chases of two vehicles, police arrested Ana Brindley, 20 of Sun Prairie, and Martinique Walker, 19 of Madison, who face charges of knowingly fleeing an officer and resisting an officer respectively.
Monona Police Officers were dispatched to Walmart in Monona about 1:45 a.m. Tuesday for a report of two possible stolen vehicles in the underground parking lot.
The vehicles were described as a Black Ford SUV and a Blue Toyota smaller SUV. Monona police arrived on scene and attempted to stop the Black SUV as it was leaving the parking lot.
The driver of the SUV accelerated rapidly towards two fully uniformed officers almost striking one of them, according to a press release from the Monona Police Department.
The same vehicle was also suspected of being involved in an armed robbery and shots fired call a day earlier.
Monona officers, along with Dane County Sheriff’s Department, began pursuing the SUV.
Numerous area departments assisted with putting out spike strips in an attempt to safely end the pursuit and were eventually able to stop the SUV.
The suspects fled on foot and another vehicle came to the area to pick them up.
That’s when a second chase began and that vehicle was also stopped using spikes, and the occupants were taken into custody.
Back at the Monona Walmart, police continued looking for the second stolen vehicle.
Officers attempted contact with four suspects at the nearby Speedway lot.
The suspects started to flee and police believe one of them fired two shots.
No officers were struck by the gunfire and no officers returned fire.
A perimeter was established and a K9 track was conducted, but the suspects were last seen jumping the fence and running toward the Beltline.
The investigation into both incidents is still ongoing. If you have any information regarding this case, please contact the Monona Police Department at (608)222-0463
