WAUSAU, Wis. (WAOW) — An area charity was honored Thursday night for its service to others.

The Jefferson Awards selection committee chose Forrest Goetsch Charities to go to Washington, D.C.

The non-profit will represent our area at the national Jefferson Awards celebration.

Forrest Goetsch Charities honors the memory of a 14-year old boy who died of a heart disorder in 2009.

The award recognizes those who have helped others in difficult times or have personally overcome challenges in their lives.

“It takes many people, like we heard tonight,” said Steve Goetsch of Forrest Goetsch Charities. “Hundreds of people behind every organization, helping them out. And I have to say thank you to all those volunteers and all the people who support our cause. ”
