WAUSAU (WAOW)– A well-known radio personality is recognized with a Jefferson Award for his numerous volunteer activities.
Dave Kallaway calls himself “The Morning Dude” and gives his time to dozens of charities throughout the area.
“It is fun to create an event that will be fun and then hopeful that will then be the bait to raise money for a charity,” Dave Kallaway said.
Disco Cures Cancer remains one of his favorites.
Kallaway hatched the idea for the 1970s themed cancer fundraiser which ran for 18-years.
During that time, it raised $250,000 for cancer patients and their families.
“People would come up and tell me I helped their family get through the treatment,” Kallaway said. “Those comments always warmed my heart and gave me motivation to keep it going.”
Another long-time favorite of his is the Hooray For Hollywood event.
It raises money for The Women’s Community in Wausau.
The non-profit helps victims of domestic violence and sexual abuse.
Those who work with him say his drive to help others goes beyond his work commitments.
“He is a great guy to have on our team. But, he is also great to have in our community because he does stuff beyond what he does at the radio station because it is something he has a passion for,” Midwest Communications Brand Manager/Personality Nikki Montgomery said.
It is something he looks forward to 365-days a year.
“The calendar is full of cool things to be at and helping others,” Kallaway said.
