MARATHON COUNTY, Wis. (WAOW) — Marathon County has implemented a new plan to bring internet access to areas in Marathon County without it.

The county has partnered with the broadband consulting agency Design Nine. They’ll conduct a survey of the county to pinpoint areas that are in need.

“We anticipate what Design Nine will do is take a look at the county and see what sort of technologies work best where,” said Melinda Osterberg, the University of Wisconsin-Extension Marathon County Community Development Educator. “What areas are under served, how we can improve things, and kind of incentivize the private sector to do some development in the county.”

The study is expected to start by mid-July and results are expected to be in by late October.

From there, the goal is to provide areas in need with affordable, reliable and high-speed internet access.

If you live in an area in Marathon County with limited access, or if you would like more information on the process, you can email Melinda Osterberg at melinda.osterberg@wisc.edu
