MARSHFIELD (WAOW) — Marshfield clinic is hosting suicide prevention training sessions in hopes of familiarizing more people with the warning signs of suicide. The training focuses on QPR (question, persuade, refer).
Health educator Jodi Chojnacki said she would like to the see community become as familiar with QPR as they are with CPR.
While asking someone about suicidal thoughts has often been thought to plant a seed, Chojnacki said that’s a myth and asking the right questions can actually be the first step in helping a loved one get help.
“If we learn to ask those questions and understand what the warning signs are, we could help someone that’s in crisis and they’ll go on to live a long, fulfilling, wonderful life,” Chojnacki said.
