The Green Bay Packers will honor the life of Bart Starr this season in a number of ways, the organization announced today.
Celebrations are planned for the weekend of the Packers’ home opener, and the team will award a $250,000 impact grant to the Bart and Cherry Starr Foundation.
This year’s Green and Gold Gala will include a presentation from Starr’s wife, Cherry, and their son, Bart Starr Jr., along with several other alumni. That event is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 13.
The following day, the Starr family and the Packers and Rawhide will host a public celebration of Starr at Rawhide in New London. That will be open and free to all fans. Details on that event will be announced later in the summer.
Celebrations will continue that Sunday as the Packers host the Vikings in their 2019 home opener.
The team is hosting a halftime program and ceremony to honor Starr, which will include several of Starr’s teammates.
In addition, the Packers will wear a No. 15 decal on their helmets to honor Starr for the entirety of the 2019 season.
“We are thankful for the countless messages of support from friends, fans, and members of the communities Dad so loved in Wisconsin,” said Starr, Jr. “We look forward to returning in September to celebrate the special relationship between my Dad and the individuals who inspired him throughout his life.”
