Patrol vehicle hit by suspected drunk driver in Janesville, police say

JANESVILLE (WKOW) — Police say one of their sergeants was hit by a suspected drunk driver while driving his patrol vehicle early Sunday morning.

According to an incident report, Sgt. Holford III was traveling eastbound on E Court St. approaching S Main St. when his squad car was struck by a vehicle around 2:45 a.m.

Janesville police say the suspected drunk driver, 25-year-old Christopher A Huff, had failed to stop at a flashing red light.

Officials say Huff’s vehicle rolled over following the collision and landed on its roof in the intersection.

Sgt. Holford checked on the vehicle’s occupants and reported that no one involved received injuries.

A Wisconsin State Trooper who responded to the incident believed Huff to be under the influence and arrested him for Operating While Intoxicated and failure to stop at a red light, according to police reports.

Authorities say while the patrol vehicle is no longer operable, Sgt. Holford is already back on duty.
