Wausau, Wisc. (WAOW) — After passing five separate resolutions, Marathon County communities continue to push for a solution to issues with Business 51.
The Department of Transportation tells News 9, “We are currently developing estimates of multiple improvement strategies and timelines associated with those strategies. We plan to set a meeting with the communities along this route in June to move forward with an improvement strategy.”
Weston, Rothschild and Schofield, as well as Marathon County’s Infrastructure Committee and Metropolitan Planning Commission, have all passed resolutions asking the DOT to address issues with Business 51.
John Robinson, Chair of Marathon County’s Infrastructure Committee, said the issues there go far beneath the surface. He said the solution would need to go beyond resurfacing, to address, “fundamental issues of the storm sewer and some of the settling that has occurred.”
The specific location of the issue extends from Highway 29 to the Eau Claire River.
