ONE YEAR LATER: Victims remembered in deadly Ascension Wisconsin Spirit Medical Transport crash

HAZELHURST, Wis. (WAOW) — A memorial event is happening Friday morning to remember the lives lost in a deadly Ascension Wisconsin Spirit Medical Transport helicopter crash in Hazelhurst.

The crew was coming back to Woodruff from a patient transport in Madison. They were just 12 miles from their destination before going down in a wooded area.

The crash killed all three crew members on board, Rico Caruso, Klint Mitchell and Greg Rosenthal.

Investigators said the chopper’s GPS signal vanished around 11 p.m. on April 26, 2018. The wreckage was found around 2:15 a.m. the next morning in the wooded area.

Friday’s memorial will begin at 11 a.m. The ceremony will take place at Ascension Wisconsin Spirit Medical Transport hanger at Howard Young.

The public is welcome to attend.
