Wausau, Wisc. (WAOW) — Unemployment reached a record low on Thursday, but Governor Evers wants to boost unemployment benefits.

At a town hall meeting in Merrill Thursday, Congressman Sean Duffy called Gov. Tony Evers, ‘misplaced and misguided.’

In his budget proposal, Ever’s asked for unemployment benefits to increase by about $35 per week.

Duffy said, “If we want to look at how do we train people on how they get into those jobs – you know get people from the sidelines into the workforce, those are really powerful conversations.”

Christina Lammerding from Manpower, a staffing agency,  said not all unemployed people are unqualified for jobs. “We are coming out of the winter season where construction season isn’t high, so that’s when those individuals get their reprieve.”

Ever’s budget proposal has not yet been passed.
