Grand Saline, TX (CNN) — Police in Texas said a 12-year-old boy from Pennsylvania is being hailed a hero after using Snapchat to help a friend of a friend, who was having a difficult time.

“This one day, she said she was feeling really sad and stuff,” Gabriel, the 12-year-old, said.

He said the little girl, who lives all the way in Texas, confined in him and what she told him really weighed on his heart. After that, Gabriel called the suicidal services to get her help.

“It’s reassuring to know that there are kids out there like Gabriel that show bravery and heroism and doing the right thing for someone else,” Chief Jeremy Barker of the Grand Saline Police Department said.

Police were able to locate the little girl and assured Gabriel that she was going to be okay. They even sent him a letter, thanking him for his heroic deed.
