WAUSAU, Wis. (WAOW) — DNR officials said it’s time for ice fisherman to start removing their ice shanties from all area lakes and rivers.

“Once March does approach, you’re going to start potentially having more thawing ice and water issues with the shanties,” DNR Warden Jake Holsclaw stated.

If your shanty is on inland waters north of Highway 64, the removal deadline is Sunday March 17. If your shanty is on inland waters south of Highway 64, it’s March 3.

“If for some reason it’s frozen in and they’re unable to remove the shanties, they’re going to want to contact their local warden in the area,” said Holsclaw. “That can be found on the DNR’s website.”

The DNR Warden also said you can still continue to use your ice shanties, but you have to make sure that it’s portable. You must remove them everyday after you finish fishing.
