WAUSAU, Wis. (WAOW) — Numerous car crashes and cars sliding into ditches happened on Sunday because of the dangerous road conditions caused by the snowfall.

Wausau State Patrol Sergeant Rhae Stertz said slowing down during bad road conditions is the first step in making sure you’re safe.

“You have to travel much more slowly in these kind of conditions,” said Sgt. Stertz. “Those speed limits are set for the best conditions, so days like today you need to slow it down and drive under the speed limit significantly.”

She also said it’s important to drive with both hands on the steering wheel, keeps your eyes on the road, avoid distractions like your phone or radio, and leave plenty of space between the car in front of you so you have time to brake and react if something happens.
