CAPITOL HILL (WAOW) — President Trump is preparing to give to the State of the Union Address with the theme “Choosing Greatness” tonight, according to senior administration officials. The speech will highlight prescription drug costs, infrastructure, and national security.

The address will take place in front of a politically divided congress, and is coming off of the longest government shutdown in history. Much of the infighting in congress is over the President’s push for a border wall across the US southern border.

Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, sent a letter to House Democrats yesterday stating she hopes a commitment to bi-partisan issues will be at the speech’s core. White House officials state the goal of the speech is to promote unity and point to the accomplishments of the nation.

“He’s calling for cooperation and he’s calling for comity, c-o-m-i-t-y, and also compromise. And he’s going to point out a couple of examples where this is actually happened on his watch. I think it’s also an address that celebrates so many accomplishments for the United States of America that he would like to highlight as the leader of our nation,” said Kellyanne Conway, Counselor to President Trump.

The White House is also considering the announcement of other “Moonshot goals.” One is expected to be announced is an initiative to end transmissions of HIV by the year 2030.

All of this, in the shadow of the February 15 deadline for funding the government.
