WAUSAU, Wis. (WAOW) — Aspirus leaders are taking a step towards removing a financial burden for families with a big announcement on Thursday.

Soon, Wisconsin families will have a bit of relief with a 10-room family house near the Wausau hospital.

The president of the hospital said it will provide families a little ‘getaway’ while still close by.

“You want to be close to your loved, you want to be close to the care that you need and it becomes costly for individuals to not only have to care for themselves, but to have housing, food, all those things for their loved ones that are with them, so this helps take that burden off of them,” said Matthew Heywood, President and CEO of Aspirus.

The rooms will be first come, first serve and based on need. There will not be a fee for families staying at the house, but contributions will be accepted.

Aspirus still needs to raise $100,000 for the project.

Groundbreaking is planned for July.
