WAUSAU, Wis. (WAOW) — Thursday marked the first day that recreational marijuana usage became legal in the first Midwestern state–Michigan.
Wisconsin is a neighboring state to Michigan, so concerns are raised for local law enforcement agencies.
Wisconsin State Patrol and other agencies are reminding Wisconsinites that the legalization only applies to Michigan, not Wisconsin.
“Laws in Wisconsin are different,” said Wisconsin State Patrol Sgt. Jon Pedersen. “If we stop you for any violation and due to circumstances we find marijuana in your vehicle, it’s illegal in the state of Wisconsin. We will take enforcement action on it.”
State Patrol is strongly advising you to think twice before legally purchasing marijuana in another state, and illegally bringing it across state lines.
