Plover man found dead on Stevens Point bike trail

STEVENS POINT, Wis. (WAOW) — Officials are investigating the death of a man found on a bicycle trail in Stevens Point Thursday morning.

Christopher Nielsen, 53, of Plover had not been heard from since leaving his home for a bike ride Wednesday afternoon, according to a press release issued by the Plover Police Department.

Wednesday night, Plover police, Portage County sheriff officials, friends and relatives of Nielsen conducted a welfare check at a residence on Rivers Edge Ct. in Plover.

Nielsen was located deceased on a bike trail north of Riverview Avenue in Stevens Point at 8:22 a.m. Thursday.

Per the release, the initial investigation suggests Nielsen’s cause of death was attributed to a bike-related accident.
