Two high school volleyball teams faced off in a non-conference charity game Thursday night.
DC Everest hosted Newman Catholic to raise money for the Neighbors’ Place. It was the second annual Volley For Our Neighbors event.
Last year the event raised over $6,000. Organizers say the results were very unexpected and exciting.
“They’re just out there having fun,” said Jen Higgins, who helped coordinate the event. “They’re very competitive so I’m sure each team wants to win tonight, but they’ll come together and hopefully do some good for the Neighbors’ Place.”
Representatives for the organization say they’re honored and thankful for the event.
“These young ladies, their parents, their coaches, their schools are showing what kind of a community they live in,” said Tom Rau, Executive Director of the Neighbors’ Place. “We are a blessed community and I think when schools take the time to encourage this kind of activity with their students, they’re just building on that and building a wonderful future for all of us.”
Organizers tell News 9 the event raised over $6,000 again this year.
That money will help the Neighbors’ Place food pantries and will help fund different community programs through the organization.
