Fallen firefighter’s wife speaks out

Abby Barr is still processing the devastation of losing her husband, volunteer firefighter Cory Barr, in a deadly explosion.

Cory leaves behind a wife and twin 3-year-old daughters.

Abby said it started as a normal day, Cory just barely sitting down to eat when he got to the call about a gas leak. Abby said she tried to get him to stay.

"There’s not a lot of nights we had at home to have dinner and stay home all night," said Abby. "It’s just in his nature. He’s a firefighter. He wanted to go down there. He was like I’m going to go down there, check in, I don’t think he realized how bad it was."

Cory went down to the very restaurant he owns to help evacuate people in the area. Abby said he was just outside the building when the explosion went off. She said he was rushed to the hospital where he died.

"It’s amazing how you can lose so much in such a little, short amount of time," said Abby. "Something that means so much to you, I just don’t know where to go from here."

Abby is still trying to figure out how to tell their daughters that he’s gone.

"I haven’t said anything to them because they haven’t asked yet," said Abby. "That’s the question I’m fearing the most, is where’s daddy. And I’m not 100 percent confident in what I’m going to tell them yet."

Abby said no words can describe her husband, but that he was truly an amazing man.

"He saw the best in people," said Abby. "The outpouring of messages how wonderful he was. it was 100 percent true."

A GoFundMe page has been set up for Abby and her family along with the community.
