Witnesses describe heavy police presence in Wausau

A portion of North 6th Street near Fulton Street in Wausau was blocked off early Saturday morning, according to witnesses.

Witnesses tell News 9 they were told to leave the area or stay indoors by police around 8 a.m. They said they saw police with machine guns, rifles and the K-9 unit in the neighborhood.

They said they were told around 10 a.m. that everything was safe.

The Wausau Police Department told News 9 they can’t give us any details at this time because they’re still investigating the situation.
