Driver for Riverfront Rendezvous band found dead at Stevens Point hotel

STEVENS POINT (WAOW) – A man traveling with one of the bands performing at the Riverfront Rendezvous died of a heart attack at a hotel just hours before the performance, Portage County Coroner Scott Rifleman said Monday.

Robert Diaz, 57, of Tijuana, Mexico, died of natural causes at the Country Inn & Suites Friday afternoon, he said.

Diaz was the driver for The Original Wailers, a reggae band featured at the festival that night, the coroner reported.

Diaz’s body was discovered when band members went looking for him, Rifleman said.
