DA: Nurse at Marshfield center had sex with patient in a bathroom

WISCONSIN RAPIDS (WAOW) – A 23-year-old nurse at Norwood Health Center in Marshfield had sex with a patient who had a brain injury and could not legally consent to it, according to a criminal complaint.

Courtney R. Brockman of Marshfield is charged with one felony – second-degree sexual assault of a patient – in the March 25 incident.

During her first court appearance Monday in Wood County Circuit Court, a judge set a $5,000 signature bond.

According to the complaint, a sheriff’s deputy needing to use the women’s bathroom in an annex near the health center discovered the pair.

The patient denied any sexual activity but later showed investigators his cell phone showing numerous communications with Brockman during February and March, indicating a sexual relationship and plans to have "sexual activity" in the bathroom at Norwood, the complaint said.

Brockman told investigators she had sex with the patient in the bathroom "at least four times" within the last few months, the complaint said.

She said she knew the relationship with a patient was improper but he became a "sounding board for her as she had been having personal problems with her relationship with her fiancee" and it developed into something more than a friendship, the complaint said.

Norwood Health Center provides inpatient psychiatric care, skilled long-term care for persons with chronic, severe mental illness and post-acute traumatic brain injury rehabilitation services.
