CRANDON (WAOW) – A 34-year-old Crandon man accused of getting a sixth-grade girl pregnant and later performing an abortion on her was sentenced to 60 years in prison Monday, according to online Forest County court records.
Matthew Christenson was convicted of four felonies involving sexual and physical abuse of children in a plea deal with prosecutors that dismissed 10 other charges, court records said.
He pleaded guilty to three counts of second-degree sexual assault of a child and one count of child abuse recklessly causing harm.
According to court records, a presentence investigation done by the state recommended Christenson be sentenced to between 30 to 33 years in prison.
In handing down a much harsher sentence, Circuit Judge Patrick O’Melia ordered Christenson to spend 15 years on supervised release once he is released from prison, in essence a life sentence of being under control of the state, court records said.
According to a criminal complaint, Christenson was accused of raping five young girls involving incidents in January 2010, December 2012, August 2015 and April 2016.
The girls told investigators Christenson gave them alcohol and marijuana, beat them and threatened them, the complaint said.
A boy,13, told investigators Christenson locked him a closet for punishment one weekend and fed him only a potato, the complaint said.
